At Jack John Varcados Shell, we believe car maintenance and preparation are key for the hot Houston summer. If you’re planning road trips or spending a lot of time on the road, follow these car maintenance tips to keep your car cool, functional and safe this summer.

Keep your car cool. Use tools like windshield shades, window tint, seat covers, and car covers to reduce heat buildup. A portable fan or cooler can help if your A/C is weak or broken.Try parking in the shade to avoid overheating and save time cooling your car.

Check your AC. Things to look out for are a dirty cabin air filter or a clogged condenser. These help keep pollutants, like pollen, from coming through the vent. It is best to change your air filter every 12 months to avoid replacing the entire AC unit, which can be very expensive.

Test out tires and brakes. Winter conditions can have an impact on your tires and brakes for the summer. Look to see if your brakes are making any squeaking noises; if so, it’s time to change your brake pads. For your tires, make sure the pressure is between 30-35 PSI, which will avoid a tire blowout or a flat tire.

Lastly, keep your car clean. Leaving behind any food, plastics or other items in a hot car can cause damage to the interior. Routine car washes are essential. Leaving debris, bugs, dust, or dirt on a car, especially in the heat, can cause damage to the paint. Ensure nothing is stuck to the surface with regular washing.

Make your summer travel seamless by visiting Jack John Varcados Shell to prepare for the season.
